A Morning to Remember: Samara O’Gorman Inspires Empathy And Kindness at Mackay Centre & Philip E. Layton Schools

Samara O’Gorman kicked off her first stop of The Jackie Fisher Empathy Tour with a meaningful visit to the Mackay Centre and Philip E. Layton Schools. She presented Leading With Your Heart 3.0, sharing her personal experience of being bullied in school and what it felt like to go through that time feeling misunderstood.
“It didn’t make sense to me,” Samara shared, “because how we choose to express ourselves should be celebrated, not bullied. We should be judged by how we treat others, how kind we are to our peers and our community.”
Samara spoke to students about what it truly means to be a great leader and a good friend, and the role that empathy plays in both. She also surprised the students by reading her book, July’s Return. The students were incredibly attentive and curious, and their thoughtful questions and comments made the experience truly special.
The students inspired us with their kindness, warmth, and wonderful spirit, making it an honour to bring The Jackie Fisher Empathy Tour to such an amazing group. It was a truly memorable morning, and we are deeply grateful to the entire Mackay Centre and Philip E. Layton community for welcoming us so wholeheartedly — we left with full hearts.
Thank you to the Jaclyn Fisher Foundation for making this presentation possible and for their unwavering commitment to creating spaces where students feel seen, valued, and inspired. Their support ensures that Samara’s powerful message of empathy and kindness continues to reach students across the EMSB and beyond.
Back in 2026 with more inspirational tour stops from Samara, Maryam, and Sara!
